The Model C-980 Variable Speed Optical Chopper is an ultra stable laboratory instrument. A high degree of stability and precision are provided by the unit's
ironless core Swiss motor, precision photo-etched blade, and innovative circuit design.
The C-980 is comprised of a control unit with a 4 digit LED frequency display plus a chopping head containing a precise photo-etched blackened Be-Cu blade equipped
with a dual set of apertures and slots. This single blade provides chopping frequencies ranging from 4 to 5000 Hz. Selection of the desired chopping rate is accomplished by means of the front panel controls or alternatively it may be
phase-locked to an external clock or it can track an external variable DC voltage.
The phase-locked-loop design control electronics maintains phase jitter at levels of less than 0.1 % peak-to-peak with the three slot aperture (frequencies ranging from 4 Hz to 5000 Hz) and less than 1% with the 30 slot aperture (frequencies ranging from 40 to 5000 Hz).
Dual # 8-32 mounting holes permit chopping as low as 0.75 inches above an optical table or up to 12 inches above the mounting surface using the 1/2 inch rod and stand included with every unit.
The blade is fully enclosed to protect the user and to reduce noise and windage.
